Modern Bride with a little tradition on the side

One of the perks of being in the first group of attendees to the Washington Bridal Showcase (are you singing the radio commercial in your head right now??) is receiving a free (FREE!!) subscription to Modern Bride magazine. I checked my mailbox last night and jammed into my tiny mailbox were not one, but TWO issues of this glorious glossy-paged bridal-idea-overload dream. When I say jammed, I mean jammed. My mailbox is the size of a shoe box. One issue was 420 pages, the other about 800+ pages. Naturally, I had to start flipping through the magazines immediately, and let's just say, I have serious bridal fever. I have already sent my mom 3 emails today regarding wedding day items...venue stuff, hair-do's, shoes...and no, she has not yet responded. But, I digress...back to the magazine. As I was flipping through, I found something about a new wedding "origami crane craze". Apparently, a new wedding trend 'taking flight' (yes I copied that from the magazine, please no plagiarism accusations) is couples incorporating cranes into their wedding decor. The best part about this incorporation, at least in my eyes/mind, is that (in many Asian cultures) cranes symbolize peace and longevity...but even more so, cranes mate for life. How beautifully sweet is that?? So now I'm thinking that perhaps I'll have to add cranes into our decor. Don't worry, I'm not talking swans waddling in the tulip border a la Steve Martin and 1991's "Father of the Bride"...but perhaps little white origami paper cranes holding escort cards. Although, you know...Antarctica's Adelie Penguins also mate for life, and who doesn't love a penguin?! Only problem is they're also known to steal pebbles from their neighbors nests, and I don't think I'd want that kind of karma at our wedding. :)
