My Baby Girl

Just reminiscing about when my "puppy" was actually a puppy. Miss those baby days...but she's still just as cute :)

A few Whinnie baby-pics for your enjoyment:

The day I picked her up from the airport...

Not quite understanding what the potty pads were intended for...

Looking rather mischievous during her first snowstorm.

Starting to get bigger...she loved that foam ball!

Growing up is tough, mom.

The other white meat

Just thought I'd take time out to blog about the fantastic, amazing, delicious pork tenderloin that my dear husband made for dinner tonight. As in, he made a dry rub for it (ground coffee, kosher salt, brown sugar, chili powder, and few other spices), slathered that pork up, went outside to work on the patio, and when he was finished with what he could do on the patio for the evening he came inside and proceeded to cook the tenderloin.

It. was. amazing.

But the best part was quite possibly the conversation that ensued as he cut into the meat:

Hubs: "I just got a whiff of it...smells like...darn it...what does it smell like??"
Me: "I can smell it! It smells delicious!"
Hubs: "yeah, I know, but what does it smell LIKE?"
Me: "Bologna"
Hubs: "Yes! That's it! Wait. Gross."

Hahaha.

Regardless, it. was. still. amazing.

A grown-up bedroom!

Perhaps it's the fact that I have pre-pre-baby fever and have this weird instinct to nest, even though we are NOT pregnant...but over the past two months I have been dying to turn our bedroom from that of the likes of my college dorm room, into something that two mature adults can share as a sort of escape. An R.E.M. oasis, if you will.

Hence, I begged, pleaded, and kicked Todd in the shins until he gave me the green light to buy the necessary accessories to re-vamp our bedroom.

So, after several weeks of searching for the right curtains (yes, we have lived in our house for over a year, and just put up curtains), the perfect bed ensemble (yes, we have been using an old, stained, ugly white down comforter), and some pretty wall art (again...over a year, and there was nothing on our bedroom walls. Literally, nothing.), I have finally pulled together a bedroom that I am excited to sleep in at night, and look forward to making up the bed in the morning. (HELLO MOM, DID YOU READ THAT? The girl who could never make her bed, now actually ENJOYS getting up 4 minutes earlier to make it!)

So without further ado -- I bring you, our newly redecorated bedroom:

**but first, a disclaimer...I am still bringing bits and pieces of it together. We have since added a brown, beveled-edge, oval mirror over the dresser (which you can not see in these pics), and a new deep-gray blanket on the bed which ties in much better with the color scheme. Plus I'm trying to convince Todd to let me spend $150 on a headboard I found at Target. HONEY, I NEED THAT HEADBOARD!
Ok...on to the pictures:
Whinnie just before the big re-do...not too sure she can dig change

The curtains, finally hung up!

The bedding...which now has a matching grayish blanket, instead of the white. The silver lamps were already in the room and just happened to match perfectly! The silver Kate Spade frame to the left was a wedding gift and holds a picture of us on the happiest days of our lives! Ignore the diet dr. pepper can...they take over our house.

My tried and true mantra ;) This is one of those wall clings, that looks like a hand painted stencil. Several people have already asked "who painted that!" to which Todd always replies "my wife!" and then I let them be impressed for a few minutes before revealing that I infact, just stuck it (albeit difficultly) to the wall. I left enough space under the saying, for our future headboard...AHEM...honey?

The full (well, part of) shot of the room. To the left, directly across from the bed is the bathroom. To the right of the bathroom is the tall dresser, with the TV on top (yes, we're TV in the bedroom people). To the left of the bathroom is a lower dresser, with the new mirror I mentioned over top, and to the left of that is our walk in closet. Directly across from the windows is the door to the hallway, and of course, the loft...which will eventually have to be a post all it's own, if we ever do something nice with it, aside from store all of our junk.

And finally, just because it's adorable, a picture of Todd and Whinnie sleeping on one of our first nights in the re-done bedroom. Apparently she was afraid that with the old comforter, I might toss Todd out, too -- look how protective she is of him! Too sweet. :)

Since when did my parents get cooler than us?

Friday night timeline...us vs. my parents:
6:30pm:
we = deciding if we want to get off the couch and go find dinner.
my parents = at happy hour with their neighbor friends.

7:30pm:
we = having dinner with each other, enjoying diet coke & iced tea.
my parents = enjoying numerous margaritas (and dinner) with friends.

8:30pm:
we = finishing dinner and contemplating going to my parents house to borrow their rototiller and power washer to do yard work early Saturday AM.
my parents = shouting into the phone that they are all having a blast and who knows where the night might lead.

8:45pm:
we = decide to skip stopping by parents house and just head home.
my parents = having their safe ride drive them back home to continue the block party.

9:30pm:
we = having coffee and watching reruns of kitchen nightmares intertwined with a little "Cool Runnings" on the couch while snuggling with the puppy.
my parents = having beers and a wild fun time on the deck with their neighbor friends.

10:30pm:
we = will probably be in bed.
my parents = will probably be text messaging me about how much fun they are having.

And the sad thing is, this happened LAST Friday night too. We went to bed around 10pm and about 30 mins after climbing in to bed, my mom text messaged me. I was still awake and watching TV in bed, but my mom's message was "at Guapo's having a margarita! yum!" For real? Not that I'm complaining, because I love lounging on the couch with my little family, and watching my hubby do crossword puzzles while drinking coffee on a Friday night...but apparently my parents and their neighbor friends have all reverted back to their 20's and 30's. At least that's something to look forward to once your kids grow up and move out, right??

Maxim's hot list

On Monday night I decided that since Todd was getting home a bit later than I was, due to playing in a golf tourney all day, that I would catch up on the 3 weeks of Grey's Anatomy that I had missed.

Todd got home when I was about 1/3 of the way into my second of the 3 episodes, and sat down on the couch with me to watch.

A commercial for "Private Practice" came on, and of course Todd swooned. Yes -- my husband's biggest celebrity crush is Kate Walsh.

As soon as the commercial was over and he had rolled his tongue back into his head, he sadly exclaimed "did you know Kate Walsh didn't even make Maxim's hot list?"

Like his dreams had been crushed.

I couldn't help but laugh and told him "um, did you know that Kate Walsh is over 40? I'm pretty sure that eliminates her from making the cut for Maxim's hot list."

Apparently that didn't make him feel any better.

Later, I was playing the "let's name our not-yet-conceived-unborn-children" game, and said "what about the name Hudson?"

Todd's reply was "like Rock Hudson?"

So I asked "who??" (apparently I LIVE under a rock).

His reply: "you know -- the famous actor from the 50's and 60's?!?!"

Ahh my adorable husband...the 87 year old man trapped in a 31 year old body. :) I heart him.

Karma!

Last night I strategically left a pile of neatly washed and folded laundry on Todd's side of the bed so that he'd be forced into helping me to put all of the clothes away before he could climb into bed.

Reluctantly he put his socks and t-shirts in their appropriate drawers, as I did the same. I had a pile of t-shirts that I work out or sleep in set off to the side. I pulled out one such t-shirt (an old gray XXL Michigan t-shirt that Todd had once discarded for donation, but I rescued for slumbering in) and tossed it to the end of the bed, planning to wear it to sleep in that night.

After I finished putting away my half of the laundry and Todd finished putting away his half, I turned around to see Todd and Whinnie snuggled under the covers, and my Michigan t-shirt nowhere to be found.

Me: "Where did that t-shirt go?"
T: "What t-shirt?"
Me: "The gray Michigan one that I had on the end of the bed."
T: "I put it away."
Me: "Where?!"
T: "In the closet with the rest of my folded t-shirts. Isn't it mine?"
Me (getting unnecessarily pissy): "I thought it was mine now! I was going to sleep in it!"
T: "Well it's not lost...it's just in the closet..."

So as I, huffily and annoyed, made my way back to the closet to pull it out, I stumbled and stubbed (better word would be bangedthehelloutof) all the little toes on my right foot on a wire rack sitting in the middle of the closet (which Todd is planning to put up at some point).

Expletives escaped my mouth at a rate faster than the micro-machines guy. My loving husband, in his sweetest, yet most matter-of-fact voice sang out from the bedroom "kaaarmaaa".

Which clearly made me even more pissed. Which I continued to let him know. So he countered with "wait, now it's MY fault?! you're mad at ME?!"

Yes! Because instead of rushing to my rescue to sweep me into his arms and throw me on the back of his white horse and take me to the ER (or the kitchen to get ice) to stop the swelling and ease the pain, he just sing-songily told me it was karma.

Now I'm just trying to decide what was bruised more -- my toes, or my ego.

Side note: I have now taken note of the little truth that I have, in fact, become my mother*. Blaming my husband for something completely out of his control.

Being a wife is grand. There's always someone to blame**! ;)

*and there's no one else in the whole world that I'd rather be like! you are the best!
**just kidding hubs. I'll only blame you 87% of the time. loveyoulikeitsgoingouttastyle!

More Scenes From Marriage

Time: Last night, approximately 8:30pm
Setting: Laying in our bed (exhausted from the 4:30am arrival from Michigan that morning). Todd is working on the laptop and I'm watching Dancing with the Stars. Pam Anderson is about to begin her waltz.

Me: Seriously though, I'm still trying to figure out why she's famous. Aside from Baywatch and Playboy, what has Pam Anderson been in?

Todd (without skipping a beat, or even looking up from his laptop): Tabloids.

Touche, husband. Touche.
