Almost 31

Todd's birthday is coming up. He's going to be 31. I tease him that he's my old man. I mean, he is close to 4 years older than me. Good thing he still acts like a youngin'. But I do have to say though, that I believe it is with marriage, more so than age, that he has grown wiser.

For example: Last night we were driving to Brion's Grill for 1/2 price burger night and got into a conversation about what he would want for his upcoming birthday.

Me: Do you want an iPhone for your birthday?

T: Nah...I don't really need an iPhone.

Me: But your phone is really old. And scratched. And the outside screen is busted. You really need a new phone.

T: Yeah, but I don't need an iPhone. I really don't want that kind of monthly cost.

Me: What do you mean? It costs pretty much about the same as your current phone per month.

T: Yeah, but they cost a lot to buy. I don't want you to spend that kind of money on an iPhone for my birthday.

Me: But it's your birthday gift! What else would you want instead?

T: I don't know...we need a lot of things for the house still...

Me: But those are more of "household necessities" not "birthday gifts for Todd".

T: Yeah, but don't you want new curtains and blinds?

Me: For your birthday??

T: Hey, I'm willing to make that sacrifice. That's just what you do when you get married.

Ahhh...he is so wise.

That or he's been observing my parents very closely ;)

Birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas...it all turns to appliances and car parts and one point or another in your marriage!
